Viktor Orban's notable decision regarding Benjamin Netanyahu

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban described the ICC's decision as “outrageously arrogant” and “cynical.”

Orban stated, “It is interfering in an ongoing conflict. It is presented as a legal decision, but it is actually for political purposes.”

Orban said, “There is no other choice here, we have to defy this decision,” and continued as follows:

“Later today, I will invite the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Netanyahu, to visit Hungary, and if he comes, I will guarantee him that the International Criminal Court's decision will have no effect in Hungary and that we will not comply with the terms of this decision.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

The International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The arrest warrants cover war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed during Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and Israel's military operations in Gaza since that date. The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for one of the Hamas leaders, Mohammed Deif. Israel claims to have killed Deif in an airstrike in July, but the court's pre-trial chamber stated it would “continue to collect information” to verify his death.
