Village housing the Tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria under Syrian Army control
The village of Karakozak, where the Tomb of Suleyman Shah is located, has come under the control of the Syrian Army following the withdrawal of the SDF, the Syrian branch of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG.
The Syrian Army continues to deploy in areas vacated by the SDF, the Syrian branch of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, as part of a ceasefire agreement. The Syrian Army has secured control of the village of Karakozak, located in the countryside of Manbij, Aleppo, where the Tomb of Suleyman Shah is situated.
In footage shared on social media by the 76th Division of the Syrian Army, Syrian soldiers gathered in front of the historic tomb and announced that the settlements surrounding the area have completely come under the control of legitimate government forces.
A military official speaking in the footage said, "We are your brothers from the 76th Division of the Syrian Arab Army. We are currently in the village of Karakozak, in front of the Tomb of Suleyman Shah. This place has been liberated and cleansed of the filth of the SDF and PKK gangs. As of now, the entire village is under the control of friendly elements."
The tomb, which houses the remains of Suleyman Shah, the grandfather of Osman Gazi, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, is considered Turkish territory under the 1921 Treaty of Ankara. In 2015, due to the civil war in Syria, the tomb was temporarily relocated by Turkey to the village of Eşme, near the border line. The tomb remains in the village of Eşme under the protection of the Turkish Armed Forces.
