Kenya announced that it would lift the visa requirement starting in 2024 to mark the 60th anniversary of its independence. Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services in Kenya, announced that there have been 5 thousand Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) applications and that they have approved more than 2 thousand of them. With the removal of the visa requirement, they aim to increase the number of tourists by 2027.

Kenyan President William Ruto had announced at the ceremony held on December 12 to mark the 60th anniversary of their independence that they would lift the visa requirement for entry into the country as of 2024.

FIRST PASSENGERS HAVE LANDED

According to reports in the Kenyan press, Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services in Kenya, shared the information that the first passengers to enter without a visa have landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

MORE THAN 2 THOUSAND APPLICATIONS APPROVED

Bitok stated that visitors are entering Kenya using the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system and that there is no longer a need for them to obtain a visa this way.

Sharing the information that there have been approximately 5 thousand ETA applications so far, Bitok announced that more than 2 thousand applications have been approved.

TARGET 2027

With the removal of the visa requirement for all countries, Kenya aims to increase the number of tourists to 4.5 million by 2027.
