Volcanic eruption in Indonesia

In Indonesia, the number of climbers who lost their lives as a result of the eruption of Mount Marapi in western Sumatra Island has risen to 22. Indonesian authorities announced that the bodies of 11 more climbers have been recovered.

In Indonesia, which is located on the "Pacific Ring of Fire" earthquake and volcano belt, eruptions occurred over the weekend at Mount Marapi, one of the 127 active volcanoes in the country. 50 climbers in the region were rescued following the initial eruption on Saturday. Authorities announced that they had recovered the bodies of 11 climbers and that 12 people were missing.

During the rescue efforts, which continued despite the active volcano, the bodies of 11 more climbers were found. Efforts are ongoing to locate one remaining missing climber.

SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS CONTINUE

Regional police stated that they believe the one climber who has not yet been found also lost their life due to being close to the area where the eruptions occurred, and that the bodies of the deceased climbers have been taken to the hospital for identification.

Thus, the number of people who have lost their lives due to the eruptions and activity at the volcano since December 3 has risen to 22.
