Volcanoes in Italy erupt one after another
Following the activity of Mount Etna, one of the active volcanoes in southern Italy, it has been reported that Stromboli has also become active, with ash and lava from the volcanoes affecting the surrounding regions.
It has been reported that volcanic activity on the island of Sicily has been increasing over the last few days, and following Mount Etna, where lava and ash eruptions reached their peak yesterday, volcanic explosions have also occurred at Stromboli, another active volcano in the south of the country.
It was stated that the volcano on Stromboli Island, part of the Aeolian archipelago, began erupting intensely yesterday, spewing ash and some lava, with lava and rock fragments falling into the sea.
According to information shared by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the ash spewed by Mount Stromboli reached a height of approximately 2 kilometers.
In a post on the X platform, the Prime Ministry's Department of Civil Protection announced that the alarm level for Stromboli has been raised to the highest level, "red," due to intense volcanic activity.
It was also noted that the Director General of Civil Protection, Fabrizio Curcio, convened the emergency operations committee to evaluate steps to protect residents on the island from the effects of the volcano and to monitor the situation.
On the other hand, air travel was also affected by the cloud of ash and smoke, which reached a height of approximately 4.5 kilometers, emitted by Mount Etna, whose volcanic activity reached its peak during the day yesterday.
It was announced that ash from Etna reached the city of Catania and Fontanarossa Airport, and as a result, flights at the airport were suspended as a precautionary measure as of this morning.
Mount Etna on the island of Sicily stands at 3,300 meters, while Mount Stromboli rises 920 meters above sea level. Experts state that although the Etna and Stromboli volcanoes, located in close proximity to each other, share some common characteristics, their volcanic activities are fundamentally different and are not connected.
