The public in Iran went to the polls for the 14th presidential election. Votes were cast at more than 59 thousand ballot boxes set up at polling stations across the country.

Voting, which began at 08:00 in the morning, ended at 24:00 local time. In a statement issued by the High Election Commission after the polls closed in Iran, where there are 61 million 452 thousand 321 registered voters, it was stated: “The voting period for the 14th presidential election has ended, but voting continues at branches where people are still present, and vote counting will begin after these individuals have finished voting.”

Votes at the ballot boxes will begin to be counted as of the night, and official results will be announced before noon tomorrow.

In the presidential election, the voting process, which was initially announced to end at 18:00, was extended first to 20:00, then to 22:00, and finally to 24:00.

In the 14th presidential election, former Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and former Interior Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi from the conservative front, and Tabriz MP Masoud Pezeshkian from the reformist front are competing as the only candidates.

Following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, the Guardian Council had decided that the 14th presidential election would be held on June 28.
