Warning to Biden from Russia: Use of ATACMS could lead to global conflict

Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, stated that Russia would provide the "harshest response" to the U.S. decision to authorize Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles. Slutsky expressed that this move would mean direct U.S. involvement in the Ukraine conflict and would lead to a major escalation against missile attacks within Russian borders.

Warning to Biden from Russia: Use of ATACMS could lead to global conflict

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, made the following assessment in a statement to Sputnik regarding the report in The New York Times that U.S. President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use long-range ATACMS missiles in attacks on Russia:

Biden seems to have decided to end his presidency and go down in history as 'Bloody Joe'. If the information provided by the newspaper's sources is confirmed, it will have only one meaning: direct U.S. participation in the military conflict in Ukraine. This will inevitably require the harshest possible response from Russia, depending on the threats posed to our country.

Stating that Russia has issued warnings on this matter at the highest level multiple times, the politician noted that Ukrainian soldiers are not capable of using ATACMS, adding, “NATO personnel will be used,” and continued his remarks as follows:

The Kursk region is sovereign Russian territory within internationally recognized borders. American missile strikes deep into Russian regions will inevitably lead to a major escalation that threatens to have much more serious consequences. The Biden administration is aware that it is leaving the Trump team not only with the problem of resolving the Ukraine conflict but also with the more urgent issue of preventing a global conflict.

Previously, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed senior U.S. officials, that U.S. President Joe Biden had approved Ukraine's use of long-range tactical missile systems (ATACMS) for attacks on Russian territory. It was reported that the decision was related to the claim that the presence of North Korean soldiers in Russia's Kursk Region 'necessitated' strengthening the Ukrainian army's defenses.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously warned that the use of such weapons on Russian soil would mean that the U.S. and other NATO states are in direct war with Russia.
