Water crisis in Iran: President Pezeshkian apologizes to the public

Speaking at the signing ceremony for a 17 billion dollar energy investment project held in the capital Tehran, Pezeshkian addressed the problems in the energy sector. Stating that excessive energy consumption is one of the fundamental problems of society, the President drew attention to the drought and excessive water consumption in Iran.

It has been reported that water levels in dams have dropped due to the ongoing drought in the country. The Tehran Water Authority, in a statement on March 6, called on the public to reduce their consumption by 20 percent to avoid water cuts during the summer months. 

Expressing that they have gone through a difficult winter period, Pezeshkian stated the following:

''The gas reserves in our tankers were not enough to meet the needs of the power plants. Our colleagues at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy made great efforts to compensate for this shortage, and the public was not left without gas. I apologize to the public for the power outages. We are currently in the midst of a severe water crisis. If we do not use water correctly, we will definitely face problems. We need to launch a campaign for optimum water consumption. We must solve energy shortages and imbalances by preventing excessive consumption and with the cooperation of the public.''
