White House confirms evacuation of US Embassy in Baghdad
Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly confirmed the evacuation of the US Embassy in Baghdad. US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has approved the voluntary departure of families of US troops stationed in the Middle East from the region.
The US has placed its diplomatic missions and bases in the Middle East on high alert. Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly made a statement regarding claims that the US is preparing to evacuate its embassy building in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, due to increasing security risks in the region.
Confirming the evacuation of the US Embassy in Baghdad, Kelly stated, "The State Department regularly reviews the status of US personnel abroad, and this decision was made as a result of a recent review."
An unnamed White House official said that US President Donald Trump is aware of this decision.
APPROVAL FOR EVACUATION OF FAMILIES
US Central Command (CENTCOM) made a statement regarding the families of US troops stationed in the Middle East. Stating that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has approved the voluntary departure of families of US troops stationed in the Middle East from the region, CENTCOM said, "We are monitoring the tension in the Middle East."
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also warned of escalating tensions in the Middle East, calling for caution in the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz.
