White House issues 'military force' threat toward Greenland

The White House has provided a new assessment regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks on Greenland, which have sparked debate in the international community. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt underscored the strategic importance Trump attributes to Greenland, stating that the issue is viewed as a matter of national security for Washington.

EMPHASIS ON "NATIONAL SECURITY PRIORITY"

Leavitt noted that President Trump has clearly expressed the critical role Greenland plays for the U.S., stating, "President Trump has made it clear that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority for the United States and is vital to deterring our rivals in the Arctic region."

USE OF FORCE AMONG THE OPTIONS

Conveying that different scenarios regarding Greenland are being evaluated, Leavitt emphasized that the military option has not been entirely ruled out. Leavitt stated, "President Trump and his team are discussing various options to achieve this important foreign policy goal, and of course, using the U.S. military is always an option available to the commander-in-chief."

TRUMP HAD REITERATED HIS WORDS

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously argued in his statements that Greenland is strategically indispensable for the U.S. and suggested that the island should be incorporated into American territory. Saying, "We absolutely need Greenland," Trump had claimed that the island, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, was "surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships."

SHARP REACTION FROM DENMARK AND GREENLAND

Trump's remarks drew reactions from the Danish and Greenlandic administrations. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called on Trump, stating, "The U.S. has no right to annex any of the three countries belonging to the Kingdom of Denmark."

Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen described Trump's words as "Not only wrong, but also disrespectful."
