White House responds to claims of establishing a military base in Gaza

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement regarding reports in the media claiming that the U.S. is considering establishing a temporary military base on the border of the Gaza Strip.

Leavitt denied the claim, stating, "This report is based on a single piece of paper. Research conducted by someone at the Department of the Navy regarding an idea that could potentially happen in the future was treated by this reporter as an official plan, and a story was published claiming that the U.S. is investigating this matter.

I have received information from the highest-level officials in the U.S. federal government. This is not a matter the U.S. is interested in; we are not currently looking into this issue," she said.

Leavitt also emphasized that President Donald Trump has made it very clear that he does not want U.S. troops on the ground in the Middle East.

Yesterday, reports in the Israeli and U.S. press, citing unnamed Israeli officials and certain documents, claimed that the U.S. wanted to establish a large military base on the border of the Gaza Strip, and suggested that this would signify a significant increase in U.S. activities in Israel.
