White House: We do not want to see Lebanon become another Gaza

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre evaluated the current situation regarding Israel's attacks on Lebanon during her daily press briefing.

Noting that they do not agree with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's threatening statement that "Lebanon could become like Gaza," Spokesperson Jean-Pierre said, "I will be very clear about this question: We do not want to see and we will not see Lebanon turn into another Gaza. That is not what we want to see."

Stating that the suffering in Gaza and Lebanon is increasing, Jean-Pierre emphasized once again the importance of a ceasefire for this very reason, noting that they continue to work toward a ceasefire in the region.

Arguing that Hezbollah has been carrying out attacks on Israel for the past year and that today's Israeli attacks could have been prevented if these attacks had stopped, Jean-Pierre expressed that they are clear about Israel's right to defend itself.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had addressed the people of Lebanon in a video message released in English, making claims regarding the current situation.

Threatening the Lebanese people with the destruction and suffering experienced by Palestinians in Gaza, Netanyahu had stated, "You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza. It doesn't have to be that way."
