White House: We recognize Turkey's security concerns as legitimate

White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby evaluated the recent situation in Syria and Turkey's fight against the YPG/PKK during a press briefing held via teleconference.

Kirby stated that Turkey has the "right to defend its citizens and territory against terrorist attacks," emphasizing that the NATO ally "has been subjected to such terrorist attacks in the recent past."

Referring to Turkey's legitimate concerns regarding counter-terrorism, Kirby said, "We recognize that they have that right, and they (Turkey) are an important NATO ally."

Kirby expressed that they are in close contact with Ankara regarding the recent situation in Syria and the YPG/PKK issue.

CITED DAESH AS AN EXCUSE

On the other hand, Kirby argued that the U.S. will continue its support for the terrorist organization YPG/PKK and that DAESH militants are involved.

Kirby assessed, "As the U.S., we have interests in the fight against DAESH, and this means a partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (YPG/PKK); this partnership will continue."
