WHO expresses concern over attacks in the West Bank

Peeperkorn made assessments at the weekly press briefing of the United Nations (UN) Office at Geneva. Noting that they are extremely concerned about what is happening in the West Bank, Peeperkorn said that the attacks have a significant impact on health.

Stating that 82 Palestinians have been killed in attacks carried out in the West Bank in 2025, Peeperkorn emphasized that attacks on the health system in the West Bank have increased significantly since 2023.

Reminding that 737 attacks on the health system have been recorded since October 2023, Peeperkorn stated that 44 health-related attacks were documented in the West Bank in January, which he noted meant the displacement of 40 thousand people.

Peeperkorn said, "Severe movement restrictions (in the West Bank) are, of course, affecting all services, most notably health."

Pointing out that the WHO's support activities in the area are continuing, Peeperkorn noted that there are health support efforts in the region, such as trauma care programs.

ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON THE NORTHERN WEST BANK

Following the ceasefire reached in Gaza that came into effect on Sunday, January 19, the Israeli army launched an offensive it named "Iron Wall" on Tuesday, January 21, in the city of Jenin, located in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

In the attacks carried out by the Israeli army since that date, at least 56 Palestinians have lost their lives, thousands have been injured, and structures and infrastructure in the region have been extensively destroyed.

In the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, more than 920 Palestinians, including 167 children, have lost their lives and nearly 7 thousand people have been injured in attacks by Israeli soldiers and Israeli settlers usurping Palestinian lands since October 7, 2023.
