WHO provides update on hospitals in Gaza: Approaching critical levels!

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted in a post on X that Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza is attempting to resume operations to serve thousands of patients again, but the situation remains incredibly difficult and chaotic.

Emphasizing that a team of United Nations (UN) experts led by the WHO reached Al-Shifa Hospital to provide essential medical supplies and assess priority health needs, Ghebreyesus reported that the hospital is currently able to provide limited trauma stabilization and dialysis support services.

Stating that surgical services are not yet possible at Al-Shifa Hospital, Ghebreyesus pointed out that the hospital lacks the blood for transfusions and the staff to handle the constant flow of patients.

CALL FOR IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE

Ghebreyesus stated, "The health system across Gaza is in a dire state; only 8 out of 36 hospitals are partially functional. The lack of food, which is causing hunger to rise across the Gaza Strip, is also a growing concern. Severe hunger also poses a serious health risk. The only sustainable solution (for Gaza) is an immediate ceasefire."
