WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who was being held in the UK, has been released as a result of a plea deal that allowed for his freedom. According to an Associated Press report, the plane carrying Assange has landed in Bangkok.

According to US District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands filings, 52-year-old Assange will plead guilty to conspiring to obtain and disclose classified US national defense documents.

PRISON SENTENCE TO END

Under the agreement, his prison sentence in the UK will end, allowing him to return to Australia.

As part of the deal, Assange is not expected to serve any time in a US prison, as the time he already spent in prison in the UK will be taken into account.
