Will Cyprus reunite? 'Now or never'
Colin Stewart, Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), stated that a critical turning point for the reunification of Cyprus is approaching, marking the 60th anniversary of the UN's arrival on the island.
UN Peacekeeping Force Head of Mission Colin Stewart, who met with civil society representatives from both sides of the island on Saturday to mark the 60th anniversary of the force's arrival in Cyprus, said that the window to end the decades-long conflict on the island is closing.
Stewart said, "We must seize the opportunities that come our way, no matter how small. We do not know if we will get another chance."
Addressing civil society representatives, Stewart stated, "I know how hard you are working and how tired you are. But we have reached the moment of 'now or never'." He further added, "It is time to dedicate all your energy to a solution."
