President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides made significant statements at the 79th United Nations (UN) General Assembly. Addressing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Christodoulides announced that they are ready to resume negotiations for the establishment of a 'bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.'

Speaking at the 79th UN General Assembly held in New York, Christodoulides emphasized that negotiations must be restarted for a lasting solution to the Cyprus issue.

The leader of the Republic of Cyprus stated that the peace process is the only alternative, saying, 'The future of Cyprus must be that of a reunified and prosperous European state.'

Christodoulides also requested support from the international community.

CALL FOR 'PEACE FOR THE REGION'

Addressing President Erdoğan directly, Christodoulides stated that Turkey and Cyprus will remain neighbors, but these ties must be strengthened through peace and cooperation.

'Geography does not change; this is an opportunity,' said the leader of the Republic of Cyprus, calling for 'building peace for the region.'

ERDOĞAN RESPONDS NEGATIVELY

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated at the UN General Assembly that Turkey is open to constructive cooperation in the region.

Erdoğan noted that 'the federation model has lost its validity and that there are two separate states and peoples in Cyprus.' The President emphasized that the sovereign equality rights of Turkish Cypriots must be recognized and that the isolation must end.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, while not closing the door on the Republic of Cyprus's request for negotiations, drew attention to the embargoes imposed on the TRNC
