Jihadist groups led by HTS in Syria captured the capital, Damascus, yesterday (December 8) following the attacks they launched against the Bashar al-Assad administration on November 27.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose 24-year rule has come to an end, left the country and took refuge in Russia. The Russian news agency TASS reported that Bashar al-Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow, where Russia had granted them the right to asylum.

It is too early to talk about the protection of our bases in Hmeimim and Tartus. We will discuss this with the people who will govern Syria.
There is no meeting with Bashar al-Assad on Putin's official schedule."
