Workers at Audi Brussels plant seize keys to 200 cars: No production to take place

Management at Audi's Brussels plant has announced its latest decisions following tensions with employees after the Volkswagen Group failed to allocate any future vehicle models to the facility.

Management stated that the factory will remain closed as long as workers do not resume normal production and return the seized car keys, adding that employees will not be paid during this period.

Meanwhile, about 150 workers gathered in front of the factory this morning to protest against the management.

The Audi brand, owned by German automaker Volkswagen Group, announced in July that it would undergo restructuring at its Brussels plant—where the luxury electric Q8 model is produced and approximately 3,000 people are employed—due to falling demand, and that production of the models in question would continue in Mexico.

EMPLOYEES EXPECT 'NEW MODEL' FOR PRODUCTION

Audi management had reported last week that the Volkswagen Group had not allocated any new models to the Brussels factory for production.

Employees had been expecting a new model to be designated for production at the plant.

This situation and the uncertainty regarding their future had caused unrest among factory workers and unions.

Last week, an insufficient number of employees reported for work to maintain normal production at the factory.

Furthermore, Audi Brussels employees are planning to hold a protest in Brussels on September 16 to draw attention to the problems they are facing.
