World Food Programme: People face starvation

In a written statement shared from the region, the Rome-based WFP stated, “Since the beginning of the conflict, only 10 percent of the necessary food supplies have been able to enter Gaza.”

As reported by AA, the statement continued, “The Gaza Strip is now facing a massive food gap and widespread starvation. Almost the entire population is in desperate need of food assistance.”

WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain, whose views were included in the statement, noted the following:

“Food and water supplies are practically non-existent in Gaza, and only a tiny fraction of what is needed is coming across the borders. With winter fast approaching, unsafe and overcrowded shelters, and a lack of clean water, civilians are facing the risk of starvation.”

The statement, which noted that the fuel shortage in Gaza has led to a serious halt in bread production at all 130 bakeries, also recorded that the fuel problem is disrupting humanitarian aid distribution operations, including food aid.
