WSJ: US to deploy 3rd aircraft carrier to the Middle East

As US and Israeli attacks on Iran continue, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has brought to the agenda the claim that the Washington administration is sending a 3rd aircraft carrier to the Middle East.

In the report, which cites government officials, it was stated that the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier and its accompanying strike group have departed the US to join other US aircraft carriers in the Middle East, the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R. Ford.

It was emphasized that with this move, the number of US aircraft carriers in the region will rise to 3. It was reported that the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier will replace the USS Gerald R. Ford, which underwent resupply, refueling, and repairs at Souda Bay, Greece, following a fire in its laundry section, and later reached the port city of Split, Croatia. It was recalled that the other aircraft carrier in the fleet, the USS Abraham Lincoln, is currently operating in the Arabian Sea.

US Navy confirms departure

In a statement from the US Navy, it was confirmed that the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier departed from Naval Station Norfolk in the state of Virginia on Tuesday as part of a "scheduled deployment." Despite this, the destination of the giant Nimitz-class aircraft carrier was not explicitly stated.

Powered by nuclear energy

The H.W. Bush aircraft carrier, which is expected to be deployed to the Middle East, is known to be approximately 333 meters long and weigh more than 100 thousand tons. It is stated that the ship, which draws its power from two nuclear reactors, can operate for more than 20 years without the need for refueling.
