Yousaf and his wife reunite with family members stranded in Gaza

Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf, in a statement on his social media account X, shared a family photo that included his mother-in-law and father-in-law who returned to Scotland, noting that he was pleased to state that his family members were safe and back home.

Scottish First Minister Yousaf said, "Of course, we are overjoyed, but my father-in-law said, 'My heart is broken in two; my heart is in Gaza with my mother, my son, and my grandchildren.' He then cried as he told me how difficult it was to say goodbye to them."

Expressing his family's pleasure at seeing his father-in-law and mother-in-law at their home in Scotland, Yousaf remarked, "However, our thoughts are with those who could not leave and remain trapped in the war zone. We will continue to raise our voices for peace and to stop the killing of innocent men, women, and children in Gaza."

Yousaf emphasized that the last few weeks had been "traumatic" for them, stating the following:

"I cannot tell you the impact this has had on (my wife) Nadia and my family, especially my mother-in-law. I am sure they will share their experiences in time. We ask that their privacy be respected during this process. Thank you for all your well wishes."

Humza Yousaf's Palestinian wife's family had been stranded in Gaza

In a statement on October 9, Yousaf reported that his wife's parents, who live in Scotland, were in Gaza visiting his father-in-law's 92-year-old ailing mother during the developments in Israel and Gaza and had become stranded in the region.

Stating that the Israelis had told them to leave the country but that it was impossible for them to do so, Yousaf noted that the UK Foreign Office could not guarantee safe passage.

In a written statement on November 3, Yousaf announced that his wife's parents had exited Gaza by entering Egypt through the Rafah Border Crossing.
