Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk, who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee following a decision by the Ministry of Interior, responded to President Erdoğan's remarks: "They are not elected mayors, but obscure figures appointed by the organization."

Making a statement via his social media account, Türk said, "Obscure figures have been usurping the will of the people for three terms. I find the words used shameful and view the accusations made as a sign of weakness."

In his statement, Türk used the following expressions:

"There have not been, nor can there be, 'obscure figures' in our municipalities. However, obscure figures have been usurping the will of the people for three terms. I find the words used against someone who has dedicated 50 years to democratic politics shameful, and I view the accusations made as a sign of weakness."
