CHP not permitted to lay wreath at monument in Diyarbakır

Police did not permit the Republican People's Party (CHP) to lay a wreath at the Atatürk Monument in Diyarbakır.

According to Ferit Aslan from Medyascope, CHP Diyarbakır Deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu and the CHP Diyarbakır Provincial Presidency wanted to lay a wreath at the Atatürk Monument yesterday (October 28) for Republic Day.

The police stated that, according to regulations, only the governor, the garrison command, and the municipality are permitted to lay wreaths, and they did not allow the CHP wreath.

Tanrıkulu told the police chief, "If you remove it, all hell will break loose. This wreath will not be removed; it is not removed anywhere in Turkey. I have been a deputy for 12 years. Wreaths are not removed from here; we do it this way in Istanbul and Ankara as well. Until now, the CHP was not here, but now it is, and we are CHP deputies."

It was reported that after CHP's Tanrıkulu and the provincial administration left Anıt Park, the CHP wreath was placed behind the monument.

CHP's Tanrıkulu stated that they would file a criminal complaint regarding the matter.
