Reactions are growing like an avalanche following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the subsequent appointment of a trustee in his place. The Democracy Watch initiated in Esenyurt by CHP deputies, the Istanbul Provincial Chair, and numerous party members was met with attempts by security forces to block it.

A scuffle broke out between the police and party members who wanted to march to the Esenyurt Municipality and the CHP Esenyurt District Headquarters. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu also reacted to the situation. İmamoğlu said, "This lawlessness will not go unpunished for anyone."

Making a statement via his social media account, İmamoğlu used the following expressions:

"We absolutely do not accept that our council members, elected by the votes of the people, are not being allowed into the Esenyurt municipal building, that the group room is being closed, that our deputies and citizens are not being allowed into the municipal building, that the district is being blockaded by security forces, and that force is being used against our party members and citizens. This lawlessness and these tyrannical practices will not go unpunished for anyone. I invite all level-headed state administrators to respect the law and order."
