Trustee crisis in Esenyurt! Chief Advisor Engin Doğru resigns

Following the appointment of a trustee to the Esenyurt municipality, news of resignations from the municipal administration has begun to emerge. Engin Doğru, an advisor to Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer—who was arrested and replaced by a state-appointed trustee—has announced his resignation from his post. Doğru stated, "I would like to declare that I do not accept the trustee practice that has usurped the will of Esenyurt, that I will not work with the trustee administration, and that by resigning from my duties, I will continue to engage in politics on the streets and pursue the struggle for democracy and freedoms with my friends in Esenyurt."

"REMAINING SILENT AGAINST FASCISM MEANS BEING A MUTE DEVIL"

In his social media post today announcing his resignation, Doğru wrote:

"Our Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, who took office by receiving the votes of 1 out of every 2 citizens in Esenyurt, who largely established social peace and unity in a short period of 7 months, and who succeeded in embracing all layers and elements of society, was detained in a dawn operation as if applying the law of the enemy, and was arrested and sent to prison on the same day. While our Mayor's interrogation was still ongoing, the pro-government media finalized the arrest decision, even determined the name of the trustee to be appointed, and announced it to the public. As an Esenyurt resident who engages in politics in Esenyurt, has served in the Esenyurt Municipality, and has taken responsibility, remaining silent against the fascism being imposed means being a 'mute devil'.

"WE WILL TAKE ÖZER OUT OF THAT DUNGEON"

On this occasion, I would like to state first and foremost that I do not accept the trustee practice that has usurped the will of Esenyurt, that I will not work with the trustee administration, and that by resigning from my duties, I will continue to engage in politics on the streets and pursue the struggle for democracy and freedoms with my friends in Esenyurt. Let us say 'stop' and 'enough' to these anti-democratic practices. For the future of this country's children, our country needs freedom, equality, and democracy, not fascism. The AKP government and the trustee administration should know that we will not give you Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, we will not let you destroy him. We will resist to the end, we will take Ahmet Özer out of that dungeon, and we will bring freedom and democracy back to Esenyurt. Where there is a trustee, there is rent-seeking and plunder; where there is the will of the people, there is democracy and freedom. If a trustee has been appointed to the Esenyurt Municipality today, know that this trustee has been appointed to our common homeland, to our democratic republic, and to our collective will. From Hakkari to Esenyurt, from Esenyurt to Van, and across all of Turkey, we do not accept or consent to the trustee regime you are trying to implement. Those who impose death on women and those who darken the future of children are the same forces. For this reason, we must unite with women, workers, youth, retirees, and labor and democracy forces, and send this regime of oppression to the dustbin of history. We absolutely do not accept this decision, which targets our mayor elected by the votes of the people of Esenyurt and ignores the popular will, nor do we accept the political power's use of the judiciary as it pleases to conduct unlawful processes for its own interests. The unlawful operations you conduct against the elected officials of this country will not cast a shadow on our citizens' commitment to the Republic and democracy. Until this lawlessness ends, we will amplify our voice in the squares, before the judiciary, and on all democratic platforms to protect the popular will. I respectfully announce this to the public."
