New claim regarding lieutenants: Commander who did not express a negative opinion dismissed

The investigation launched into five lieutenants who chanted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" and took an oath by crossing their swords at the Military Academy graduation ceremony on August 30 has been completed. The file was referred to the High Disciplinary Board (YDK), and the dismissal of the lieutenants was requested.

The YDK sent the lieutenants' file back to their branch schools for re-evaluation. The dismissal requests included not only the lieutenants but also their immediate superiors. It was stated that the acting regimental commander, the battalion commander, and the company commander were also included in the process.

CLAIM THAT BATTALION COMMANDER WAS DISMISSED

Cumhuriyet columnist Barış Terkoğlu claimed that Battalion Commander Major S.İ. was dismissed on the grounds that he did not report a negative opinion regarding the lieutenants.

According to the report, while Major S.İ. was assigned to a position with no appointment, he used the following expressions in a WhatsApp group before leaving:

"I did not know that following in the footsteps of those who founded this homeland and entrusted it to us would cause this. If I had known, I would have done it again. I will not deviate from my path for a single moment."

CHP BROUGHT THIS CLAIM TO THE PARLIAMENTARY AGENDA

CHP Kayseri Deputy Aşkın Genç brought the investigation into the lieutenants and the demands to convert the positive opinions of their immediate superiors into negative ones to the parliamentary agenda.

Addressing Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Genç asked, "What is the legal basis for these demands?" He also stated that the YDK's decision to send the file back has raised serious questions in the public eye regarding a fair and transparent process.

'FOUNDING VALUES ARE BEING OPENED TO DEBATE'

Genç emphasized that making the oath text the subject of a criminal process could lead to not only individuals but also the founding values of the Republic being brought into question.
