Naci Görür warns citizens following Kahramanmaraş earthquake

According to information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 5.0-magnitude tremor with its epicenter in Pazarcık was recorded today at 09:31. 

Following the earthquake, earth scientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a series of statements on social media.

'AFTERSHOCKS MAY OCCUR'

Görür issued a warning, stating, "A 4.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in Ördektepe/Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş. The earthquake occurred on the northern continuation of the Sakçagöz fault segment and likely on the Narlı Segment. This is a normal aftershock. Aftershocks may also occur. Stay away from dilapidated buildings."

In his social media post, Görür also noted that earthquakes happen constantly, saying, "Just like today, you wake up one morning to find an earthquake has occurred somewhere and thousands of people have died. Homes are destroyed, and pain and sorrow engulf the country. Televisions blare, experts talk, the public takes to the streets, and officials rush to the earthquake zone. However, over time, what happened is forgotten."

WARNED CITIZENS

Addressing citizens, Prof. Dr. Görür criticized the situation, asking, "It is always the same scene. Aren't you tired of it? Why don't you demand earthquake-resistant cities? Why don't you give instructions to politics in this direction? Why are you so indifferent to this event that threatens our children, our youth, and our elderly?" Görür added, "Only your desire, demand, oversight, and supervision can save this situation. Your greatest power is your vote. No matter which party or view you belong to, come, let us end this earthquake issue. With love."
