A landslide occurred on the road passing through the Eriklimanı neighborhood of the Derepazarı district following heavy rainfall that was effective last night.
In the neighborhood where the retaining wall collapsed and soil slid into the tea plantation, a high-voltage utility pole on the side of the road was also displaced.
Upon notification, teams arrived at the scene and closed the road to traffic as a precautionary measure, while electricity and natural gas services to the Bahattinpaşa Village on the route were also cut off. Teams have initiated an investigation in the area.
Students were able to reach their school buses by passing through the landslide area accompanied by their parents.
"A RETAINING WALL MUST BE BUILT"
Stating that the road is closed, Bahattinpaşa Village Headman Ali Küçük said, "A road collapse occurred here. The pole shifted downward due to the road collapse on the side. Vehicles weighing 70-80 tons pass through here. This road is not capable of carrying this load. Security teams came during the night and took precautions here. The road is currently closed. We have had no electricity since yesterday evening. A large retaining wall needs to be built here."
"WE FROZE UNTIL MORNING"
Ayşe Şahin, who had to pass through the landslide-affected road to drop her grandchildren off at the school bus, said, "They will restore the electricity and natural gas, we are waiting. We have had no electricity since 9:00 PM. We went to bed, what else could we do? There was no natural gas either, we froze until morning. Now we have brought the children here for the bus."
