CHP Eskişehir MP Utku Çakırözer visited Tayfun Kahraman, Can Atalay and Osman Kavala, who are among the convicts of the Gezi Park trial, at the Marmara Closed Penal Institution. Tayfun Kahraman relayed to Çakırözer the mistreatment he experienced in the prison transport vehicle while being taken to the hospital for a health check last week.

HELD IN HANDCUFFS IN THE TRANSPORT VEHICLE

Kahraman stated that he was kept in the transport vehicle for hours with his hands handcuffed, and that despite his warning that the handcuffs were tightening his wrists, they were tightened even further. He also stated that during his examination at Cerrahpaşa Hospital, the gendarmes did not leave the room despite the doctor's request. Kahraman added that they filed a report at the hospital regarding the bruises and wounds that formed on his wrists.

MISTREATMENT APPLIED TO ALL PRISONERS

Tayfun Kahraman stated that the mistreatment he experienced was not applied only to him but to all prisoners, and that this had become an institutional problem, adding that he would pursue a legal struggle. Emphasizing that the problem must be solved, Kahraman said, "The main issue is not that this mistreatment was applied to me, but that it is applied to all prisoners and that this mistreatment has become normalized and generalized."

Making a statement in front of the prison after the visit, CHP's Çakırözer stated that the Gezi Park trial detainees are being held unjustly. Stating that the mistreatment experienced by Tayfun Kahraman sets an example for other detainees in prisons, Çakırözer emphasized that humane treatment must be ensured in prisons. He also stated that, as Chairman Özgür Özel has also indicated, they will follow up on lawlessness and mistreatment at every level.

Demanding the release of the Gezi Park trial detainees and other individuals held unjustly, Çakırözer said that Turkey must rid itself of this shame.
