Statement from the Gendarmerie General Command on Tayfun Kahraman: 'It was done in accordance with the law'

Meriç Demir Kahraman announced that Gezi Park trial prisoner Tayfun Kahraman, who was taken for a routine neurology check-up due to his MS diagnosis, was kept in handcuffs for 6.5 hours.

Stating that her husband was subjected to the torment of being handcuffed, Meriç Demir Kahraman noted that the handcuffs were applied in a way that would stop blood flow to his wrists and cause physical harm, and that they were tightened further when he objected.

Following Meriç Demir Kahraman's statement, a response came from the Gendarmerie General Command.

The statement claimed that the gendarmerie personnel acted in accordance with the regulations.

'IT WAS DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH LAWS, REGULATIONS, AND DIRECTIVES'

The following statements were included in the Gendarmerie's statement:

“All transfer and treatment procedures were carried out in accordance with the laws, regulations, and directives in force.

During the examination and transfer process, no incident such as the tightening of the aforementioned prisoner's handcuffs or him being threatened occurred, and there is no medical report of assault regarding the individual.

The unrealistic allegations put forward regarding the news in question are intended to mislead the public and negatively affect the reputation of the Gendarmerie General Command."
