Arriving in Trabzon as part of various programs, Özdağ listened to the problems of local tradespeople he visited in the Beşikdüzü district.
Holding a press conference at the Trabzon Journalists Association after visiting the Atatürk Pavilion, Özdağ reacted to the naming of a boulevard in Diyarbakır after "Sheikh Said" and stated that they would keep this issue on the agenda.
"WE WILL SUPPORT THE PATRIOTIC CANDIDATE WHO IS STRONG AGAINST THE HDP"
Stating that they are continuing their efforts to enter the elections by fielding their own candidates in all districts of 81 provinces, Özdağ spoke as follows:
"We will field candidates in the districts of Kars and Iğdır, but we are not considering fielding candidates for the provincial seats. Here, we will support the patriotic candidate who is strong against the HDP. This candidate could be from the MHP, CHP, or IYI Party. I don't know, we won't look at their parties; we will look at their chances of winning and their patriotism, because we do not want the HDP to win in these cities again. We will actively support the candidate who is strong on this issue."
Expressing that they had called on the IYI Party for electoral cooperation, Özdağ said, "More than 10 days have passed. We also requested an appointment.
So far, no response has come from the IYI Party Headquarters to either our call or our appointment request. Our request for an appointment and cooperation will not continue forever.
If a positive response does not arrive within a few days, we will present our assessment of this matter to the discretion of patriotic voters and withdraw our requests," he said.
When asked about his thoughts on electoral cooperation with the CHP, Özdağ stated the following:
"Cooperation with the CHP is possible. For this, we need to sign a protocol with Özgür Özel. We would want Özel to state in this protocol that Sheikh Said was a traitor to the homeland. We would want him to give us assurances that the HDP is a party linked to terrorism, and to provide assurance that he himself thinks the same."
We would want him to give assurance that he will not form an alliance with the HDP, and that he will only form an alliance with the Zafer Party. We would want to have it written into the protocol that he is loyal to the national, unitary, and secular state principles defined by the 1924 Constitution. We do not want this protocol to be secret. We have put our proposal forward."
Özdağ later went to the Trabzon Courthouse and submitted a petition to the Trabzon Administrative Court requesting a stay of execution regarding the naming of a boulevard in Diyarbakır after "Sheikh Said."
