Ferrari's first electric model sold for 40 million dollars
Ferrari's first fully electric model, the Luce, was sold for 40 million dollars at a charity auction during Monterey Car Week.
Ferrari's first fully electric car, the Luce, was sold for a record price at Monterey Car Week, held in the US state of California. 40 million dollars was paid for the vehicle at a "bespoke" auction organized by Sotheby's for charity.
Ferrari announced that the sale broke the record for the most expensive new car ever sold at auction. With this, the brand surpassed the record previously held by the specially designed Daytona SP3, which sold for 26 million dollars last year.
The Luce, which was introduced in May with a price tag of 636 thousand 356 dollars, is seen as one of the symbolic models in Ferrari's transition from its tradition of internal combustion engine sports cars to the electric era. During the launch process, the vehicle became the focus of criticism, and the company's share price also experienced a decline.
"Bespoke" cars are known as vehicles that are personalized according to the buyer's requests and produced as one-off examples. The design of the Luce also involved the LoveFrom studio, founded by Jony Ive, the former design chief of Apple and a key figure behind the iPhone and iMac.
The model, which draws attention with its four-door structure, is stated to offer over 1,000 horsepower. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said during the launch in May that the Luce had received orders from both existing and new customers.
''The Ferrari Luce has nothing to do with the electric cars you see from other manufacturers. You have to see it and drive it to understand that it is not copied, neither its interior design, nor its exterior design, nor its performance.''
