Fully electric Mercedes-AMG GT 53 unveiled: 809 km range and fast charging in 11 minutes

Mercedes-Benz has expanded its fully electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe family with a new option. Following the GT 55 and GT 63 versions showcased in May, the series' entry-level model, the AMG GT 53, has now been announced.

Expected to fill the gap left in the brand's liftback sedan segment by the departure of the CLS, the electric AMG GT 53 is positioned as the "base" version, yet it stands out with its performance and range figures.

PERFORMANCE AND RANGE DATA

Instead of the tri-axial flux electric motor used in the higher-end versions, the GT 53 opts for a dual-motor setup. This system is capable of producing an instantaneous 544 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. According to data shared by Mercedes-Benz, the car reaches 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

The continuous power output of the model's two motors is stated as 367 hp. While the GT 53 remains more modest in performance compared to the GT 55 and GT 63, it is positioned as the family's standout option in terms of efficiency.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the electric AMG GT 53 can offer a range of up to 809 kilometers. The brand also announced ambitious figures for charging, stating that thanks to the vehicle's 600 kW fast charging support, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 11 minutes.

According to the released data, an additional range of up to 534 kilometers can be obtained with a 10-minute charge. These figures stand out as one of the model's most important highlights for drivers aiming for high range with short break times, especially during long-distance travel.

Sound and gear simulation technologies have also been included in the fully electric GT 53 to enhance the driving feel. While the more powerful versions mimic the sound of a V8 engine, the GT 53 simulates the sound character of the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine found in the former AMG E53 Coupe.

Mercedes-AMG officials state that this system aims to create an experience closer to the feel of an internal combustion engine both inside the cabin and outside. In this way, the brand is attempting to combine silent driving with the AMG character in an electric performance car.
