New Hyundai Bayon stands out as Izmit's new SUV

The new Hyundai Bayon made its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, which opened its doors on October 12. The model had been on the agenda for months with teaser images, but it was seen in its real form for the first time in Paris. The most important part of the news for Turkey is the production location: The new Bayon, which will go to the European market, will be produced at Hyundai's Izmit factory, and production will begin within this year.

New Hyundai Bayon stands out as Izmit's new SUV

The previous generation Bayon could not quite escape the look of a raised hatchback. The new generation, however, shifts directly to an SUV stance. A more angular interpretation of the Art of Steel design language, increased ground clearance, prominent fenders, a sculpted hood, and lower protection details strengthen this character. The horizontal lighting strip extending across the front is accompanied by projection LED headlights. The same horizontal signature is repeated in the rear taillights.

The vehicle has a length of 4,245 mm, a width of 1,810 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Thanks to the extended wheelbase, Hyundai claims to be the best in its class in terms of rear legroom. The trunk volume is 440 liters in gasoline versions and 397 liters in the hybrid.

Wheel options go up to 18 inches, and a black roof can be chosen. There are three matte options in the color palette: Vibrant Blue Matte, Ice Blue Matte, and Fierce Red Matte. Hyundai states that the Bayon is the only model in its segment to offer a matte body color. The N Line version, prepared for those who want a sporty look, features special grille details, fins on the lower bumper, 18-inch N Line wheels, and dual exhaust outlets integrated into the rear diffuser.

Gasoline first, hybrid in 2027

The new Bayon will go on sale initially with a 1.0-liter T-GDI turbo gasoline engine. The engine has two versions, 90 PS and 115 PS, and is paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In gasoline versions, 0-100 km/h acceleration varies between 10.8 and 14.1 seconds, and the maximum speed varies between 167 and 180 km/h.

The hybrid version, which will join the range in 2027, will combine a 1.6-liter GDI gasoline engine with an electric motor and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing a total of 138 PS. The targeted WLTP combined CO2 emission is 102-113 g/km. Energy recovery in the hybrid will adjust itself according to driving conditions, and the driver will be able to change the level with paddles behind the steering wheel if desired. Thanks to the battery assembly facility established at the Izmit factory this year, the hybrid version will also be produced in Turkey.

Equipment from a higher class in the cabin

In the cockpit, depending on the equipment, a 12.3-inch multimedia screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster are combined in a single curved frame. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Digital Key 2, which turns a phone or smartwatch into a key, wireless charging, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system make up the technology side. With the optional entertainment package, platforms like YouTube can be accessed directly from the screen.

On the comfort side, the Bayon comes with an unusual list for the small SUV class. Heated and ventilated front seats, reclining heated rear seats, rear air vents, an openable panoramic glass roof, and dual-zone automatic climate control are offered. In terms of safety, systems such as HDA 2 highway driving assistant, surround-view camera, and blind-spot monitoring are included.

The new Hyundai Bayon is planned to go on sale in Turkey in the first months of 2027. Prices will be announced in the coming period.
