Have the capitulations returned?

Based on what we have learned from the private conversation of NTV reporter Hüseyin Günay that leaked to the press, as well as from independent media, we did not gain anything from the Turkey-US visit.

We can draw a similar conclusion from the speech Hakan Fidan gave to the press.

Sure, F-35 fighter jets were discussed and put on the table, and on the other hand, we bought quite expensive Boeings and so on, but that too is conditional. It is dependent on conditions. It is said that these conditions are as follows:

1- Those living in Gaza will give up their lands and migrate to Turkey.

2- Turkey will stop buying gas from Russia.

3- No trade will be conducted with China.

4- Money will be transferred to Palestine.

These are the allegations. And if these allegations are true, then oh dear. The meeting they described to us as a “beautiful visit” might be a disaster.

Why wouldn't it be?

The Treaty of Sèvres, for example, was also a disaster. But it was described to society as “peace.” Or rather, it was forced upon the public. Let this not be the same. Or the Armistice of Mudros. In November 1918, it was said, “The war is over, peace has arrived.”

The public swallowed that, too.

Even the British Marshal Viscount Allenby, who occupied Jerusalem in 1917 and arrived in Istanbul two years later with the occupation forces, was introduced by the pro-government Istanbul press—which we call the Armistice press—as “Âli Nebi” (The Exalted Prophet), can you believe it? They described how he brought honor to occupied Istanbul.

They deceived the entire society at that time through the pro-government press.

Let it not be the same now.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, while describing his meeting with US President Donald Trump, says, “It was a visit too beautiful to be tarnished by the mud slung at it.”

But what are the details of this beautiful visit? We don't know. The accounts consist only of Palestine-Gaza-focused and general expressions.

All sorts of questions come to mind.

For example, when a journalist asked about the F-35s, President Erdoğan was able to respond, “How curious. How curious. I am not as curious as you are.”

Such answers are only given in palace regimes. They are not given in democratic regimes. They cannot be.

They would hold you accountable immediately.

Besides, of course, we are curious.

Because that money given for the F-35s is the nation's money. It came out of the nation's pocket. The nation will naturally ask. It should ask.

We know the content of the treaties made 100 years ago article by article.

But today, we do not know who is signing what and for what purpose, or which articles the agreements consist of.

Judging by the described and alleged agreements made with the US, the situation is dire. I will call this a capitulation, but it is even heavier than a capitulation.

What we call a capitulation is an economic privilege granted by one state to other states. But here, there is both privilege and pressure. For example, there is an import exemption in agriculture and food. A tax reduction is in question. On the other hand, there is a liquefied gas agreement that provides such a great privilege to America. Yet, you can buy the same gas from Iran at 1/3 the price. This means there is a special privilege and concession granted to America. Still, let's call this much a capitulation.

But what comes after this is beyond a capitulation. Because it is said that Trump imposed on the Turkish delegation that they should not buy gas from Russia and not trade with China.

This is unheard of.

Do not forget.

The capitulations bankrupted the Ottoman Empire.

However, after the Turkish War of Independence, and after the blood of tens of thousands of martyrs, they were abolished with the Treaty of Lausanne.

Now, one for America, too?
