An unbelievable game of usurping the will in Üsküdar

To understand how things work in the governing practice of those who never stop talking about the ballot box, national will, democracy, and justice, it is more than enough to look at the shameful process that has recently taken place in Üsküdar. Rather than political competition, there is a tragicomic picture showing how law and administrative mechanisms are mobilized in line with political goals.

The beginning of the process is well-known.. 

Sinem Dedetaş, who was elected Mayor of Üsküdar by defeating her AKP rival Hilmi Türkmen by a clear margin in the March 31 local elections, was sent to prison through a controversial judicial process. She is being held in a high-security prison. 

Following the imprisonment of the will that emerged from the ballot box, an election for the deputy mayor was held in the municipal council. At the end of that tense session, where backstage calculations, personal ambitions, and political greed were openly displayed, CHP council member Sibel Tan Çetinkaya emerged victorious.

However, for the ruling wing, the decision of the ballot box or the council majority is only considered "sacred" when it yields results in their favor. 

The objections raised by the AKP wing, which relies on its sphere of influence over the judicial mechanism, were met with jet-speed responses, and the election was canceled.

The most striking operation was put into effect immediately after the cancellation decision.  

Two CHP council members, who were alleged to have voted for the AKP candidate in the third round of the deputy mayoral election, were forced to resign.

Immediately afterward, 4 CHP municipal council members were summoned to testify; a 4-day detention order was issued for 2 of these individuals.

While only a few hours had passed since these detentions, which directly affect the council's arithmetic, the Istanbul Governor's Office announced the new date for the deputy mayoral election as Saturday, September 5, at 10:00 AM. 

Isn't it unbelievable? In such an environment, who can feel safe? Let someone answer in the name of all the values they believe in... Who is safe, where are justice, law, the will to vote, and democracy? 

The picture is extremely clear...  

The election will be held while council members who have the right to vote are in police custody.

The plan to recapture Üsküdar by those who could not win at the ballot box, by designing the council's arithmetic through the judiciary and civil administration, is being staged step by step.

This process, disguised as a love for service or public interest, is fundamentally nothing more than the paralysis of the local public will through blatant interference.

We are going through a period where the issue of the independence and impartiality of the judiciary has been eroded to the point where it can no longer even be debated. However, there is an immutable rule that those who think their political power is absolute overlook. When power changes hands or the wind turns, that order of law and justice, which is being recklessly trampled upon today, will be needed most by those who destroyed it.

While those who stand on the ground of rights, law, and conscience remain with their heads held high before history, it is necessary to remind those who are content with watching these clear injustices and hiding behind the shield of conservatism that one day they too will be in need of the justice they have rotted with their own hands.
