“You dandy, you… Sit in the palace, take the throne, let billions of dollars be your toys, let wastefulness and extravagance be your companions, let the rich be your friends; are you calling us “addicted to ostentation”? You have 13 planes. You have a life of luxury. You have convoys full of cars at home and abroad. You have spent 22 years keeping the people poor and destitute while becoming the party of the rich. The dungeons are ours, the palaces are yours; we are the ones who are ostentatious, is that so? Are you jealous? You palace dandy.”
***
The person who said these words is CHP İzmir Deputy Tuncay Özkan… And the person he is targeting is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan!
When Erdoğan targeted the opposition by using the phrase “addicts of ostentation,” Tuncay Özkan got carried away and uttered these words.
The ruling front, which was waiting in the wings saying, “If only a fight would break out so we could tear this CHP apart like carded wool. If only we could make people forget the high inflation, the ever-increasing poverty, the desperation of retirees, and the rebellion of the unemployed. If only we could play the victim again,” seized the opportunity and began to bash both Tuncay Özkan and his party.
Upon the order of the Ministry of Justice, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office immediately launched an investigation.
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik openly called him and his party “fascist”…
Of course, it did not stop there.
Those in the AKP who wanted to secure their future also took the stage with statements that would draw attention.
The boldest of them turned out to be AKP Deputy Mahmut Rıdvan Nazırlı. This fellow officially cursed on his X account.
He called Tuncay Özkan a “vile and a son of a b*tch.”

So, how did the CHP respond to these words?
The CHP Headquarters preferred to remain silent rather than respond.
Only Deputy Mahmut Tanal made a statement:
“According to Court of Cassation precedents, the word ‘dandy’ is not an insult. In a previous ruling, the Court of Cassation found a person who had been convicted for using this word to be innocent.”

When Tuncay Özkan was in prison, I had tried to be the voice of him and my other colleagues Mustafa Balbay, Müyesser Yıldız, Soner Yalçın, Barış Terkoğlu, Barış Pehlivan, and the late Doğan Yurdakul.
I had read all the files of the cases opened against them and attended almost all the hearings.
I had both tried to explain the absurdity of those allegations to the public and ensured their voices were heard by publishing the letters that came from these friends.
Nearly fifteen years have passed; I can say it now:
Because I published those letters and went to those hearings, I was warned repeatedly by the bosses of the institutions I worked for.
That is why I turned into a “weed.”
In the end, I was left unemployed.
As for Tuncay Özkan and Mustafa Balbay, whom we called “blood brothers from different parents” in those days, they entered politics as soon as they were released from prison. Both became deputies.
In all the years that have passed, these two “unfaithful” brothers neither called nor asked after me.
In the days when I was condemned to unemployment and hunger, no one from that “cadre of colleagues who were victims of the conspiracy” I listed above said, “Do you need anything?”…
Though; would I have accepted their help if they had asked?
Some found fame, some found money…
Only Müyesser… She was always, but always by my side.
***
Why did I make the issue personal?
Because there is no lie; Tuncay, whom I knew as a “blood brother from different parents,” whom I constantly kept on the agenda while he was inside, and whose voice I tried to make heard, is no longer that “fearless journalist Tuncay.”
The current Tuncay is a person who has shattered his own clean personality among the dirty gears of politics and is criticized everywhere he goes by the millions who used to support him…
He is busy paying his debt of loyalty (!) to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who did not call or ask after him even once while he was in prison, and did not come to his visit or hearing.
***
As for his words towards the President…
Whether it is a crime or not; the authorities to decide this are clear.
I only believe that Tuncay is playing into the hands of the AKP and its Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with this unnecessary expression.
With these words, he created a new space for the “victimhood literature” that the AKP has been looking for but could not find for years.
He opened the door for those who want to curse the CHP.
Perhaps he has committed a major mistake that will stop the rise of the party he is still a deputy for, which has been ongoing since the local elections.
***
As I said, the journalist Tuncay was different; today’s “Kılıçdaroğlu’s Tuncay” is completely different…
I hope he realizes the wrongness of his actions and sees that it is time to hang up his hat in politics.
