You remember Dilruba Kayserilioğlu; the young woman who was sentenced to 7 months and 15 days in prison for “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” due to her remarks in a street interview in İzmir regarding the access ban imposed on Instagram…
This sentence must not have satisfied President Erdoğan, as his lawyers have filed a new lawsuit against Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, seeking up to four years in prison on charges of insulting the president.
So, what did Dilruba say?
“If we abandon the parliamentary system in the heart of the 21st century and hand over the entire country to a single man, he will use it like his father’s barn. Why should I mourn just because some Arab died? If they weren't ashamed, they would make us observe the 40th day of mourning for them too! Those who support the Instagram ban and the killing of stray dogs: You are morons. Because you have surrendered all your rights to freedom to a single person!”
***
In the end, Dilruba was arrested and introduced to prison. However, she did not abandon her thoughts, nor did she retract what she said.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, as if it were his duty, stated that he “apologized on behalf of Kayserilioğlu” to the AKP voters who were offended by her words.
Özel also announced that he had advised Kayserilioğlu to apologize for some of the expressions she used.
***
I watched Dilruba on Fatih Portakal’s YouTube channel.
In her statement, she reiterated that she would not apologize to those who took the term “moron” personally, and said exactly the following:
“What I said was this; anyone who acts on an idea without thinking about where it will lead is a moron. If only AKP supporters took this personally, that is their problem, not mine. I am addressing the AKP supporters here: why did you take it personally? Those who are not morons did not take it personally. I think anyone who took it personally needs psychological support. Either they should drink some chamomile tea or write about it in their diaries while crying. I am not apologizing to anyone who took it personally.”
***
You may be angry with Dilruba for what she said, or you may not agree with her thoughts.
You may think she should have been softer.
But all of these are your thoughts.
Dilruba does not think like you.
She also does not think like CHP Chairman Özgür Özel… Moreover, she explains point by point why she does not think like him.
Yet, Mr. Özgür came out; at the opening of the İzmir Fair, he had the audacity to apologize on behalf of Dilruba, whom he met there, as if she were his own underage daughter.
***
No offense to anyone, but I agree with Dilruba to the end:
Everyone should mind their own business!
No one should try to discipline anyone else!
If Mr. Özgür is so keen on apologizing, he should apologize for his own mistakes.
He should apologize for believing in the “normalization” nonsense that Erdoğan put into circulation to overcome the shock of his election defeat!

Özgür Özel is a politician…
As the name implies, he is doing “politics”.
He is trying to appear charming to everyone to gather votes.
Dilruba, on the other hand, is one of the people…
Moreover, she is unemployed, she is young, she is a woman, and she feels the deterioration in the country in her veins.
That is why she does not “play the game” like some politicians!
She has no need to appear charming to anyone.
She does not “practice taqiyya” like some reactionaries either.
She has no concern about protecting her seat like most bureaucrats, lawyers, and academics!
Into the microphone extended to her, she only tells what she feels and thinks.
For example, she defends the parliamentary system, which the CHP Chairman has not even mentioned for a long time.
She rebels against one-man rule!
***
I will not beat around the bush; if there were a presidential election today and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Özgür Özel, and Dilruba Kayserilioğlu were competing…
I swear, my vote would go to Dilruba…
But not just for her thoughts; because she stood behind her thoughts like a lion despite all the pressure she faced…
For her character!
Good for you, my girl…
I am glad you exist!
