The AI wars have begun, God help us all!

While we are busy debating "Will artificial intelligence take our jobs or not?", the war has already begun in Silicon Valley...

The statements made by Elon Musk and Bill Gates last week were proof that the war axes have been sharpened in the valley.

Elon Musk opened the topic first. Speaking on comedian Joe Rogan's podcast, Musk warned that artificial intelligence could lead to the extinction of humanity. Immediately afterward, he said that some people might use the technology to end humanity in order to protect the planet.

It is unknown whether there was a reference to Bill Gates here, but it brought to mind Gates, whose every other word is "protecting the planet."

Then, as if he hadn't said all of this himself, just two days later he announced that his newly founded artificial intelligence company xAI would launch its "first artificial intelligence."

Immediately afterward, Bill Gates got involved. He wrote a blog post praising artificial intelligence and saying that everyone will have an AI assistant within the next 5 years.

Gates stated that we will no longer use different applications and that our computer usage habits will change completely.

While we are still looking for an answer to the question "Will artificial intelligence take our jobs?", OpenAI, the inventor of artificial intelligence, caused an 8-magnitude earthquake in 'Silicon Valley'. The company announced that its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman had been dismissed.

Hours later, they called Altman back. This time he didn't accept, and Microsoft stepped in.

With a maneuver reminiscent of clubs in the Turkish League in the 80s stealing players from each other, Bill Gates added the Maradonas of this business to his squad.

Musk, who says artificial intelligence is a threat to humanity, argued that Altman's firing was an indicator of the danger of artificial intelligence and said, "The OpenAI board should explain to the public why they felt they had to take such a drastic decision." Yet, the same Elon Musk was a former board member of OpenAI!

Now, as we try to understand the reason for all this fighting, the situation has turned into something like a morning talk show feud.

OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, announced the reason for firing CEO Altman with the statement, "We no longer have confidence in Altman's ability to continue leading."

But after Bill Gates' offer, their confidence soared again and they called Altman back hours later! Altman said, "I don't care, I'm not playing."

While we are still thinking, "But will this artificial intelligence take our jobs or not?", we missed the real reason for this war: 'The economic return of artificial intelligence!'

Thank God there are people who think about these things.

Entrepreneur Demirhan Büyüközcü, the owner of the technology company V-Count, is one of them. We cannot count all the work he does, but he is one of the important names in the sector with Ultima AI, which collects online data analysis. We know him in Turkey mostly as the co-founder of Onedio.

Educator, consultant, author, and business person Bora Özkent, who is known not only in Turkey but also abroad, looked at the issue from the economic dimension and shared his views.

Büyüközcü claims that all these events are actually happening for economic reasons. According to Büyüközcü, the scientific world does not care about the risk to humanity as Musk says. Büyüközcü says, "Linking the earnings of OpenAI employees to the share price causes all employees to chase new features and new turnover."

Bora Özkent, on the other hand, refers to the fact that what is happening is entirely due to economic reasons, saying for OpenAI, "The company is losing a lot of money, the new investment round with a 90 billion dollar valuation has been canceled, and its biggest partner (49%) Microsoft may become a competitor or even an enemy."

Hours after Özkent's prediction on his social media account that "The company's highly paid engineers can forget their stock options. I predict that many of them will leave in the coming days," 505 out of 700 employees at OpenAI notified the management in a letter that they would move to Microsoft if the board of directors did not resign.

Let's summarize...

I don't think these tech-rich people, who always remind me of the Lex Luthor character in Superman, are interested in saving humanity. While many sectors in the world have expired, technology has become the most important industry with great momentum. Now, technology that enters our pockets is as valuable as the food sector is in terms of vitality.

Even the Zeus of this business, Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple, which assisted us even before artificial intelligence, haven't even joined the war in Silicon Valley yet...

Time will tell if artificial intelligence poses a danger to humanity, but as in every war, greed will prepare our end. Even if artificial intelligence cannot harm humanity on its own, humanity's greed will create its new monster with its own hands.
