A farmer is plowing his field. The field is a flat area between two hills. Two thieves arrive and hide in a hollow on the northern hill. Their goal is to steal one of the farmer's oxen. They are waiting for an opportunity. Then, it becomes noon. The farmer unyokes the oxen. He lets them graze in the field. He opens his own bundle and starts eating his bread and cheese. Just at that moment, one of the thieves starts jumping around on the opposite hill to get the farmer's attention. At the same time, he shouts:
-I'm baffled! I'm baffled!
The farmer looks toward the thief. The man shows no sign of stopping or quieting down. He keeps shouting. He keeps throwing himself on the ground:
-I'm baffled! I'm baffled!
The farmer is curious. Thinking he might be of some help, he gets up and walks all the way to the thief. The farmer is at one end of his field, the thief at the other. It is quite a distance. By the time the farmer arrives, the other thief has taken one of the oxen and crossed over the opposite hill. He disappears from sight.
The farmer reaches the shouting and stomping thief and asks:
-My brother, what is going on? Why are you baffled? The thief replies:
-By God, I'm baffled by how you are plowing with only one ox!
The farmer turns around and sees that, indeed, one of the oxen is missing. He is stunned. He says:
-By God, I'm baffled too!
As a society, we are going through a complete process of being baffled.
Bewilderment, confusion, and detachment from reality are the mental states that dominate the minds of today's society. Citizens do not know which path to take. They are shown only one path: the path of liberalism. The path of laissez-faire, laissez-passer. In other words, the path of capitalism.
Capitalism has turned our people into people of entertainment. It has turned them into "laissez-faire" people. You know the saying: while the neighborhood is burning, the woman obsessed with entertainment is putting on makeup. The man obsessed with pleasure and entertainment is combing his hair.
"Not the atomic bomb,
Not the London conference.
Tweezers in one hand,
A mirror in the other.
Does the world even matter to them!"
Whether man or woman, does the world even matter to us!
Seeking rights, organizing, holding mass demonstrations... Such things do not exist in our culture. Oh, there is sighing and lamenting. There is complaining. There is leaving it to God.
Yet, there is a verse in the Quran that says, "We rain filth upon those who do not use their intellect."
We lack labor, production, and organization.
There is a verse that says, "He who remains silent against oppression and injustice is a mute devil." Well... that is why we have plenty of vocal devils. And plenty of filth is raining down on us. And we are baffled.
-I'm baffled!
-I'm baffled!
Why are you baffled, brother?
There is nothing to be baffled about. We are reaping what we sowed.
Mustafa Büyüksipahi's article on the press describes the vocal and mute devils so well. I recommend that everyone read this article about the press carefully.
