The political memoirs of Crazy Dashoy

I was an independent mayoral candidate.

He must have been from somewhere around Kars, Erzurum, or Ağrı. That is how I remember it. His name is Dashoy. People in the area call him Crazy Dashoy. To his face, they call him Dashoy Ağa. Behind his back, Crazy Dashoy; to his face, Dashoy Ağa. Down with Crazy Dashoy, up with Dashoy Ağa. Life just flows on like that, with all its hustle and bustle. Days and months come and go.

Oh, I almost forgot, by God. Let me say it while it is on my mind. This Crazy Dashoy is also a good socialist, mind you. He knew very well that he was not from the same class as the landlords who employed him. He was from the exploited working class, and the landlords were from the exploiting ruling class.

For a while, he was also involved in unionism.

In summary, Crazy Dashoy’s beliefs were as follows:

This Crazy Dashoy’s religious beliefs and political beliefs were one and the same. He had unified religion, politics, economics, and science.

Everything that exists formed an inseparable, indivisible unity.

He became a candidate for the metropolitan municipality.

Since there was no party to nominate him, he became an independent candidate.

He was traveling from village to village, neighborhood to neighborhood. Although, as if it were absolutely necessary, the villages had also been turned into neighborhoods.

Anyway, let us get to Mr. Dashoy’s candidacy:

In one village, a crowd was sitting in a coffeehouse, chatting:

-The village’s prankster mukhtar said, "Look here, Mr. Dashoy, you are already a well-known and recognized man. There is no one in this city who does not know you; instead of going to all this trouble to come here, you could have just sent us a piece of paper. We would give you our votes, our support, and even our lives." Mr. Dashoy looked the mukhtar up and down. He said:

-Look here, Mr. Mukhtar, how fond we have become of being deceived and deceiving others. Politicians from the big parties come and deceive you. They take your vote and leave. And you are deceiving me; there is no 'we will vote for you.' It is clear you will not vote. Look, brothers, we have been deceived and exploited so much that we are nothing but skin and bone. Our villages have turned into deserts. Our fields have become unproductive, nature is polluted, and there is no one to look out for us. We are getting poorer every day. What we produce is worth nothing, yet you are making fun of me."

The mukhtar saw that Crazy Dashoy was giving very good answers and immediately changed the subject. He said, 'Sir, let me ask you something.'

-There are so many municipalities, so many mayors. There are so many municipal council members. These municipalities have so many expenses. There are the mayor’s trips abroad, the municipal council’s trips abroad. There are the mayor’s private expenses; what is all this? Will any benefit come to us from these municipalities, will any benefit come to the people?

Crazy Dashoy says, "Never, no benefit will come." Never…

-Why?

-"Municipalities have increasingly become the coffers of political parties. They have become places to enrich politicians."

Mukhtar:

"-So what will happen? The result?"

Crazy Dashoy:

"-Municipalities should be abolished and replaced with something new. Otherwise, things cannot continue as they have been."
