ChatGPT's voice option compared to Scarlett Johansson to be temporarily removed

OpenAI has announced that the voice option in its ChatGPT artificial intelligence model, which many users have compared to actress Scarlett Johansson, will be temporarily removed.

In a statement made on the X social media platform, OpenAI noted that work is underway to pause access to "Sky," one of the voice options offered for chatting with ChatGPT.

The statement read, "We believe that AI voices should not deliberately mimic a celebrity's distinctive voice. Sky's voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson, but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice."

Many ChatGPT users had compared the "Sky" option to the tone of voice used by Johansson in the 2013 film "Her," in which she voiced an AI operating system.

CONTROVERSY GREW

The fact that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman used the word "Her" in a post on his X account during the introduction of ChatGPT's new version, GPT-4o, had also fueled the controversy in this direction.

Thanks to the "Voice Mode" that ChatGPT introduced in September 2023 and made available for free in November, users can chat with the AI model by choosing one of 5 voices, including "Sky."
