Scarlett Johansson takes legal action against AI app that cloned her voice
Scarlett Johansson has initiated legal action against an AI application for using her name and voice in an online advertisement.
In a 22-second advertisement published on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, by an image generation app called Lisa AI: 90's Yearbook & Avatar, real footage of famous actress Scarlett Johansson was used to create a fake image and dialogue representing her.
The 38-year-old actor's legal representatives stated to Variety that necessary legal actions have been initiated since the incident was discovered on October 28, adding:
"We do not take these things lightly. Per our usual course of action in these circumstances, we will deal with this with all legal remedies that we have," they said.
The advertisement was subsequently removed.
The video in question began with behind-the-scenes footage of Johansson from the set of the Marvel film Black Widow.
A voice mimicking the actress was used in the video to promote the app, saying: "It's not limited to avatars only. You can also create images with texts and even your AI videos. I think you shouldn't miss this."
A small disclaimer at the bottom of the ad read:
"Images produced by Lisa AI"
"NOT THE FIRST"
Johansson is not the only actor to oppose the use of their name or generated image for artificial intelligence. Last month, Tom Hanks also warned his fans after an AI-generated image of him was used in a promotional video: "Beware! I have nothing to do with this," he wrote.
