The artist, who had been fighting glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer, following a diagnosis in the fall of 2022, had previously played for a time in the thrash metal band Nihilist before founding Blackberry Smoke in 2000, where he joined forces with Charlie Starr and Paul Jackson.
