'WE ARE PURSUING THE STRUGGLE FOR JUSTICE'

Book author Ertekin stated, "In this book, we are pursuing the breathtaking struggle for justice of Sezen Öz, a teacher, lawyer, and judge who lost her husband, Prosecutor Doğan Öz, to an assassination. Perhaps it cannot be perceived through our accustomed ways of thinking that a woman with a calm soul, who does not go where she is not invited, could create a cry for justice that would reach all the squares of the country.

We are usually quick to associate cases with grand calls, a high tone of voice, and an angry male performance. Yet, Sezen Öz is a pioneer who has brought a gentle anger, a sense of peaceful struggle, an attack within calmness, and a noiseless determination and persistence to all those great cases, the longing for a fair world, the struggle for rights, and a democratic and social republic."

THE DOĞAN ÖZ MURDER

On the morning of March 24, 1978, Doğan Öz left his house to go to work and headed toward his car. He got into his Anadol-brand car and started the engine; while waiting for the engine to warm up, İbrahim Çiftçi, who was a part of the Idealist Hearths (Ülkü Ocakları), appeared at the front of the car and fired six shots at Öz with the pistol in his hand. Çiftçi fled the scene running.

Following the assassination, İbrahim Çiftçi, a student at the Tourism and Trade Higher School who was captured on December 26, 1978, confessed to the murder in his statement.
