Neyzen Ömer Erdoğdular laid to rest

Master ney player Ömer Erdoğdular, who passed away at the age of 75 in the hospital where he was receiving treatment, has been laid to rest in Istanbul.

The funeral prayer, held following the noon prayer at the Üsküdar Yeni Valide Mosque, was attended by the artist's family, loved ones, and friends, as well as Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Dr. Coşkun Yılmaz.

Prof. Dr. Süleyman Seyfi Öğün, in a statement to an AA reporter, noted that he met Erdoğdular in 1986 and said he was honored to have been his student.

Pointing out that Erdoğdular was not just a musician, Öğün said, "He was one of the kindest, purest, and most sincere people I have ever known in my life. He was a person who lived the 'ney' in his life. Our teacher Ömer was what a 'kamil insan' (perfected human) should be. He introduced the ney to the whole world. He never looked at music from a commercial perspective."

'A TRUE ISTANBUL GENTLEMAN'

Journalist and author Şeref Oğuz also emphasized that Erdoğdular was part of the group that raised generations in the field of music, stating, "I have never seen such a humble, modest, and altruistic person in my life. He was a true Istanbul gentleman. I consider myself very privileged to have made music with him. May he rest in peace."

Following the funeral prayer, Erdoğdular's body was laid to rest at the Kuzguncuk Nakkaştepe Cemetery.

WHO IS ÖMER ERDOĞDULAR?

Erdoğdular, who served in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Classical Turkish Music Choir, was born in Konya in 1949.

The master ney player, who received his first ney lessons from his father, Mehmet Ali Bey, participated in the activities of the Istanbul University Turkish Music Choir for a period and performed concerts with the choir.

Erdoğdular worked as a musician in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Classical Turkish Music Choir between 1984 and 1987, and in the Istanbul Classical Turkish Music Ensemble from 1987 to 2015.
