'Orhan Pamuk. The Consolation of Objects' exhibition in Germany

An exhibition titled 'Orhan Pamuk. The Consolation of Objects' is being held at the Old Masters Picture Gallery (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister) in Dresden, Germany, in collaboration with Nobel laureate author Orhan Pamuk and the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD).

For the exhibition, Pamuk recreated 41 of the 78 display cases found in the Museum of Innocence in Istanbul. Replicas of the items in the museum are being exhibited outside of Istanbul for the first time. Pamuk also created new display cases for the exhibition, inspired by significant works found in the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the Dresden State Art Collections.

''A POWER THAT PROVIDES CONSOLATION AGAINST THE FLOW OF TIME''

The collection, consisting of objects, paintings, and texts, is the first collection Pamuk has created since his work for the Museum of Innocence.

As reported by T24 from Art Daily, Pamuk said, "I also realized that one of the most important things we discover and experience in a museum is the context of the relationship of objects with each other and with individuals, their thoughts, and their sorrows. I call this the power of objects; a power that provides us with consolation against and in favor of the flow of time..."

The presentation accompanying the exhibition can be listened to via an audio guide or smartphones.

Meanwhile, Pamuk's photographs will be exhibited in the studio of the Dresden Castle.

WILL ALSO BE EXHIBITED IN MUNICH AND PRAGUE

The 'Orhan Pamuk. The Consolation of Objects' exhibition will be at the Old Masters Picture Gallery in Dresden from October 6, 2023, to April 7, 2024. After Dresden, the exhibition will be displayed at the Lenbachhaus in Munich between May and October 2024, and at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague between November 2024 and the spring months of 2025.
