Roman-era chamber tomb unearthed

A chamber tomb dating back to the Roman period has been discovered during excavation work at the Ancient City of Tharsa in Adıyaman.

Roman-era excavation and cleaning work is continuing with 20 workers in the ancient city located within the borders of Kuyulu Village, which contains rock tombs.

As a result of the work carried out within this scope, a Roman-era chamber tomb was encountered.

Adıyaman Deputy Museum Director Mustafa Çelik told reporters that the city is an open-air museum.

'OUR WORK CONTINUES'

Explaining that they found a chamber tomb during the excavation and cleaning work carried out in the Ancient City of Tharsa, Çelik spoke as follows:

"We started excavation and cleaning work here this year. During the excavation, we identified a chamber tomb consisting of 1 main chamber and 3 arcosolia. On the entrance section, there is a bull relief, which we refer to as a bucranium. In the middle section, there are garlands and rosettes. We are continuing our work to turn this ancient city into a tourism attraction with such chamber tombs that we have found."
